Emergency Response

Emergencies can quickly disrupt access to healthcare, clean water, sanitation, and other essential services – placing significant strain on communities and local health systems.

Across Sub-Saharan Africa, communities are increasingly affected by floods, droughts, disease outbreaks, displacement, and other climate- and health-related emergencies. These crises often have the greatest impact on already vulnerable populations, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

CPAR works with local partners, communities, and public institutions to support timely emergency response efforts while strengthening long-term resilience and recovery. Our approach is grounded in existing community relationships and local systems, helping ensure that support reaches communities quickly and effectively.

This has included supporting frontline health workers and hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic through the provision of personal protective equipment, medical supplies, and health training. In Malawi, CPAR also responded to severe flooding and cholera outbreaks by working with UNICEF and local partners to distribute essential WASH supplies to displaced communities.

CPAR’s emergency response efforts are closely connected to our broader work in health systems strengthening, WASH, food security, and climate resilience – helping communities better prepare for, respond to, and recover from future crises.
