Livelihoods

Across many rural communities in Sub-Saharan Africa, limited economic opportunities make it difficult for families to earn stable incomes and meet basic needs. Financial insecurity also increases vulnerability to rising food prices, climate-related shocks, and other pressures that affect household wellbeing.

CPAR works with communities to strengthen livelihoods through practical, locally adapted income-generating initiatives. Our programs support women and youth in developing skills, accessing local markets, and building small businesses that can provide more reliable sources of income. This work combines training with practical support, including business and financial literacy training, startup inputs, livestock, equipment, and small-scale financing. These approaches help individuals diversify household income and strengthen economic resilience over time.

CPAR also supports community-based initiatives that respond to local needs while generating income. In some communities, women’s groups produce soap and reusable menstrual products, improving access to essential items while creating opportunities for local enterprise.

By strengthening skills, assets, and economic participation, CPAR supports communities in building more stable and sustainable livelihoods.
