| Since September 2004, with support from CPAR donors and joint collaboration among CPAR-Tanzania, Ryan's Well Foundation and Rotary Arusha, two 30,000 liter rainwater harvesting tanks and ventilated improved pit (VIP) latrines have been constructed in 10 primary schools in Karatu District. So far, this project has benefited over 6,000 students and 100 teachers at the following schools: |

- Masebeda

- Shangit
- Khusumay

| The results at these schools include increased attendance and ability to attract teachers; a huge reduction in incidents of water-borne illness and stomach ailments among both students and teachers; students are now alert in class because they are not dehydrated and prone to fainting; students are happy that they don't have to travel long distances to collect water from contaminated water sources, and girls in particular are safe from being harassed or worse on their way to fetch water. |
