'Time to Deliver', AIDS Conference 2006 provides an international, open forum for the exchange of ideas, knowledge and research which will influence HIV/AIDS programs and strengthen prevention, treatment and care efforts worldwide.
An estimated 20,000 participants including scientists, health care providers, political, community and business leaders, journalists, government, non-governmental and intergovernmental representatives, and people living with HIV/AIDS are expected to attend the Conference.
Attendees from CPAR will include Jimmy Kadongola, Health Coordinator and Manager of CPAR-Malawi's HIV/AIDS work, Gizaw Shibru, Regional Director and CPAR-Uganda Country Director, as well as Anna Miller, Director of Programs, CPAR Toronto office.
CPAR staff will represent the organization at two pre-conferences as well as several events during the Conference itself: "Envisioning the Future: An International Symposium on Children Affected by HIV and AIDS" presented by the Teresa Group and Sick Kid's Hospital, as well as "HIV/AIDS, Conflict and Displacement" another pre-conference organized by UNICEF and UNHCR.
| In keeping with the Conference theme, Time to Deliver, CPAR has created an educational exhibit entitled "What would you deliver in Kamanganjulu?" The exhibit invites visitors to learn about the experience of Kamanganjulu, a small village in Nkhata Bay, Malawi, in confronting the affects of HIV/AIDS. After learning about the various ways that HIV/AIDS has impacted this community, visitors are asked to consider what they would deliver if they were to try to respond to the needs of AIDS-affected community members in Kamanganjulu. Visitors then learn about the work of CPAR-Malawi and how interventions related to education, orphan-care, increasing access to testing and livelihood support have helped to improve the lives of community members and are helping to build a brighter future.
